Berkshire Middle School Proud Dads Club

Proud Dad's Club

Math & Science Enrichment

Goal: The Dads Club is focusing on promoting Math and Science opportunities at Berkshire Middle School.  We hope to leverage the talents of our Moms and Dads to generate excitement and passion in our children around learning and innovating in these fields. The Dads club will do what we can to support existing programs/clubs that are part of the curriculum as well as creating new opportunities for students outside of  the classroom.  The program will involve four tracks:

  • Math
  • Engineering - Robotics
  • Green - Alternative Energy
  • Bio-Medical

The Dads club is supporting Berkshire's efforts at Berkshire to participate in Math Pentathalon: . The Mathematics Pentathlon is a program of interactive problem-solving games, supportive curricular and instructional activities, and assessment tools for students in grades K-7. This motivational program strengthens basic math concepts and skills, aligns with National and State Mathematics Standards, and stimulates creative thinking while developing problem-solving skills.

Please contact Chris Kondak, or any of the other Dads Club guys if you wish to volunteer.

Engineering - Robotics

The Dads club is re-igniting interest in the events for 2015-2016 and beyond.  The Dads club is also creating a FIRST FTC team(s).  The FIRST program challenges middle and high school students to:

  • Design, build, and program robots
  • Apply real-world math and science concepts
  • Develop problem-solving, organizational, and team-building skills
  • Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments

Green - Alternative Energy

The Dads club has supported the Solar Cookout and Berkshire's Green initiatives.  Please contact us if you have interest in helping us get this activity started.  We have solar ovens and also detailed instructions on the best cooking methods.

Here is an interesting wiki entry on solar cooking and shows the ovens that we have used on past solar cookouts :
